Forest Clearance, commonly referred to as Forest NOC, is a mandatory statutory approval required when a project involves diversion or use of notified forest land for non-forestry purposes. The approval is granted under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and forms a critical part of the Environmental Clearance (EC) stage for applicable projects.
Where forest land is involved—directly or indirectly—approval for forest land diversion must be addressed during the EIA–EC process. Environmental Clearance cannot be granted unless forest-related approvals are examined and integrated into appraisal.
